  • 2000

    Koyo Seiko and Toyoda Machine Works signed MOU regarding joint development of electric power steering systems.

  • 2002

    FAVESS Co., Ltd. was established to conduct development and sales of electric power steering systems.

  • 2005

    Koyo Seiko and Toyoda Machine Works signed merger agreement.

  • 2006

    JTEKT was founded.

    World first rack-direct-drive type electric power steering (RD-EPS) with electronically controlled variable-gear-ratio steering system (E-VGR) was developed.

    Ultra low torque tapered roller bearing (LFT 3rd generation) was developed.

  • 2009

    The production of torsen differential for RWD Lexus IS-F was started.

    JTEKT acquired needle bearing business of the Timken Company, USA.

  • 2010

    Start the production of high-speed spindle bearings for machine tools.

    The world's fastest high-speed angular contact ball bearings for machine tool's spindle was developed.

    Technical center was established in China, providing product proposal and technology support for Chinese customers.

  • 2011

    The integral brand logo was created.

  • 2012

    Iga Proving Ground was completed and started the actual carrying, evaluation and analysis of steerings and driveline components. 

  • 2013

    Working in special environment as water and chemical solution, EXSEV series Corrosion Guard Pro Bearing with long service life and high corrosion resistance was developed.

    Gear skiving center of complex gear process in short time was developed. 

  • 2014

    JTEKT GROUP VISION was announced.

    Large size bearing engineering development center started operation. It can simulate the bearings' working environment such as high-speed railcars, wind power generators, steel equipments and etc.

    Tapered roller bearing hub unit (T-HUB, 3rd generation) with LFT technology for SUV cars was developed and put into mass production. LFT=Low Friction Torque.

    Upgrading of CNC general purpose cylindrical grinder.

    Start the production of high pressure hydrogen gas valve and pressure-reducing valve for TOYOTA FCV MIRAI.

  • 2015

    Start the production of electric power steerings (EPS) of ISO262626 standard.

    On April 1st, 2015, the total number of electric power steering (EPS) units manufactured by JTEKT throughout the world has surpassed 100 million since the world's first EPS was developed in 1988. (According to JTEKT research)

  • 2016

    10th anniversary of JTEKT.

    JTEKT WAY was announced.

    Rack parallel type electric power steering (RP-EPS) with improved emission, safety and comfortability was put into production.





  • 1921

    Koyo Seiko (Osaka, Japan) was established as a private company by Zenichiro Ikeda. Initially it sold imported bearings, and subsequently started bearing production.

  • 1935

    Koyo Seiko was reorganized and renamed as Koyo Seiko Co., Ltd. 

  • 1959

    Start developing the bearings for Tokaido Sinkansen.

    Start the development/test production of steering system.

  • 1976

    New developed ball screw type hydraulic power steering was equipped on MITSUBISHI Calant Σ. 
    Sign a technology introduction treaty of hydraulic power steering system with General Motors.

  • 1978

    Start world's first production of bearings for vacuum environment. Start market promotion with clean pro bearings for semiconductor production equipment and high temperature environment called as EXSEV series bearings (BEARINGS FOR EXTREME SPECIAL ENVIRONMENT) in 1990s.

  • 1983

    High-performance tapered roller bearings, LFT (Low Friction Torque) series was developed, with overwhelming advantage on reduction of friction resistance than other companies' same productions, contributing to the development of lightweight and environmental protection of vehicles.

  • 1984

    Development and  commercialization of fine ceramic bearings with TOSHIBA. Ceramic bearings can work in the harsh environment that steel bearings can not cope with.

  • 1986

    Automotive steering reached No.1 (about 25%) market share in Japan.

  • 1988

    The world's first electric power steering system (C-EPS=Column type Electric Power Steering) for Suzuki Cervo was developed and produced.

  • 1992

    Produce ultra large bearing for tunnel excavator of Tokyo Bay Aqua Tunnel. It was the world's largest bearing at that time.

  • 1994

    Koyo Seiko acquired HPI, France.

  • 1995

    The first bearing manufacturer in China WUXI KOYO BEARING CO., LTD. (Wuxi, China) was established, starting the production of bearings in China.

    DALIAN KOYO WAZHOU AUTOMOBILE BEARING CO., LTD. (KWA) Dalian, China was established as a joint venture with Wazhou Group, starting the production of  automotive bearings in China.

  • 1996

    YUBEI KOYO STEERING SYSTEM CO., LTD. (YKS) Henan, China was established as a joint venture with Yubei Group, starting the production of steerings in China.

  • 1998

    Start the production of axle bearings for N700 Shinkansen.

  • 1999

    Start the production of P-EPS=Pinion type Electric Power Steering.

  • 2003

    Start the production of large bearings for wind power generator.

  • 2005

    JTEKT STEERING SYSTEMS (XIAMEN) CO., LTD. (JSSX) Xiamen, China was established, starting the production of EPS (EPS=Electric Power Steering).




  • 1941

    Toyoda Machine Works Ltd. was established in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan as a separate/ independent body from the Machine Tools Division of Toyota Motor Corporation, starting the production of machine tool.

  • 1952

    Production of automotive parts was begun.

  • 1955

    Cooperation with Toyota Motor Corporation, first transfer machine in Japan was completed.

    Start the production of cylindrical grinders (technical tie-up with Gendron in France).

  • 1956

    TOYODA-GENDRON cylindrical grinder No. 1 was developed.

  • 1964

    Start the production of ball screw hydraulic power steering.

    Start the development of mechatronics.

  • 1965

    TOYODA original brand grinders equipped with owned  TOYODA STAT BEARING was developed.

  • 1968

    Start the production of power steering systems.

    Start the development and production of machining centers. 

  • 1971

    TOYOPUC general controller was developed.

  • 1972

    New developed ball screw hydraulic power bearing was deveoped. This type of steering lines were equipped on many car models such as TOYOTA's CORONA MARK II, Carolla and Levin.

  • 1980

    Start the production of constant velocity joints (=CV joints). The first type was equipped on TOYOTA LAND CRUISER.

    Start the development of industry robot,  which is the key of TOYOTA group factory automation.

  • 1989

    Independent-developed Rotary Blade Coupling(RBC) was recognised and equipped on TOYOTA Starlet.

  • 1994

    It had been 20 years since the sale of CNC general purpose cylindrical grinder.

  • 1998

    Start the production of ITCC(Intelligent Torque Controlled Coupling) to improve the performance of 4WD cars.

  • 1999

    Toyoda machine works customer center was completed.

  • 2003

    Develop RD-EPS (=Rack-direct-drive electric power steering) with Toyota Motors for TOYOTA Crown.

    Acquire Torsen Business Division from Bosch Automotive.

    Establish automotive components factory in China. Now it  was renamed as JTEKT AUTOMOTIVE (TIANJIN) CO., LTD. (JATJ).

    EstablishTOYODA MACHINERY (DALIAN) CO., LTD. (TMD) in China.

    Start the production of TOYOPUC safety PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller), as Japan's first products with international certification at highest level.

JTEKT commenced exchange/collaboration with China in the early 1990s and has grown significantly together with China over the last twenty years while contributing to the development of Chinese manufacturing sector.

    Start technology exchanges with related organizations in China on June.

  • 1993

    President of Koyo Seiko Mr. Tsuboi (at that time) was awarded as "Wuxi honorary citizen " on April.

  • 1995

    WUXI KOYO BEARING CO., LTD. (WKB) was established in Wuxi, Jiangsu on September.

    DALIAN KOYO WAZHOU AUTOMOBILE BEARING CO., LTD. (KWA) was established as a joint venture with Wazhou Group in Dalian, Liaoning on December.

  • 1996

    YUBEI KOYO STEERING SYSTEM CO., LTD. (YKS) was established as a joint venture with Yubei Machinery in Xinxiang, Henan on June.

  • 1997

    FAW KOYO STEERING SYSTEMS CO., LTD. (FKS) was established as a joint venture with Fawer Company in Changchun, Jilin on Feberary.

    WUXI KOYO BEARING CO., LTD. (WKB) was awarded as an excellent company on June.

  • 2001

    KOYO BEARING DALIAN CO., LTD. (KDC) was established in Dalian, Liaoning on March.

    Koyo Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. , one of the goup companies of JTEKT, holded technology exchanges with Jiangnan University on December.

  • 2003

    TOYODA MACHINERY (DALIAN) CO., LTD. (TMD) was established in Dalian, Liaoning on April.

     JTEKT AUTOMOTIVE (TIANJIN) CO., LTD. (JATJ)* was established in Tianjin on July.

  • 2004

    SHYE FU KOYO (XIAMEN) MECHANICAL INDUSTRY CO., LTD. (SFK) was established in Xiamen, Fujian on January.

    JTEKT DALIAN INNOVATION AUTOMOTIVE CO., LTD. (JDI)* was established in Dalian, Liaoning on July.

    KOYO LIOHO (FOSHAN) AUTOMOTIVE PARTS CO., LTD. (KLF) was established in Foshan, Guangdong on August.

  • 2005

    JTEKT STEERING SYSTEMS (XIAMEN) CO., LTD. (JSSX)* was established in Xiamen, Fujian on March.

    JTEKT AUTOMOTIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER (DALIAN) CO., LTD. (JAST)* was established in Dalian, Liaoning on March.

    Technology exchanges with Tongji University on April.

    JTEKT (CHINA) CO., LTD. (JCC)* was established in Shanghai on August.

  • 2006

    JTEKT Corporation was established in January through the merger of Koyo Seiko and Toyoda Machine Works. 

    Technology exchanges with Tsinghua University on November.

  • 2008

    JTEKT group donated 15 million yen(about 100 yuan) to the Chinese Red Cross for Wenchuan on May.

    Establish "Koyo Electronics FA Laboratory" and "Electronic Technology Research Center" in Jiangnan University on July.

    Establish "Koyo Electronics Laboratory" in Jiangnan University on November.

    Mr Yoshida, chairman of JTEKT Corporation at that time, took up his post as vice chairman of  Jiangnan University's board of directors, and made a speech in Jiangnan University on December.

  • 2010

    KOYO NEEDLE BEARINGS (WUXI) CO., LTD. (KNBW) was established in Wuxi,Jiangsu on January.

    KOYO JOINT (XIAMEN) CO., LTD. (KJX) was established in Xiamen, Fujian on Feberuary.

    JTEKT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER (WUXI) CO., LTD. (JRDC) was established in Wuxi, Jiangsu on May.

    Establish "automotive active safety technology joint laboratory" at the college of automotive engineering, Tongji University on October.

    Technology exchanges with Jilin University on October.

  • 2012

    WUXI KOYO BEARING CO., LTD. (WKB) and KOYO NEEDLE BEARINGS (WUXI) CO., LTD. (KNBW) were relocated to new places on May.

    JTEKT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER (WUXI) CO., LTD. (JRDC) was relocated to new place on May.

  • 2015

    August 29th was the 10th anniversary of JTEKT (CHINA) CO.,LTD. (JCC).
